An Illinois-based truck driver passing through Michigan changed his life forever when he purchased a scratchers ticket at a gas station.

According to Michigan Lottery officials, a 48 year old truck driver who chose to remain anonymous recently purchased a Mystery Multiplier scratcher ticket at the Speedway gas station, located at 24118 Cole Avenue in Mattawan, Michigan.

“I’m a truck driver, so I’m in Michigan a lot and like to buy Lottery tickets while I’m here,” said the truck driver. “I scratched the barcode and scanned the ticket right when I purchased it. When I got a message to file a claim, I assumed I had won one of the $2,000 prizes.”

“I scratched the ticket when I got back in my truck and couldn’t believe it when I saw I’d won $1 million. I didn’t believe it was real until I called the Lottery office to confirm my prize.”

Officials said that the truck driver visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his $1 million winnings, opting for a lump sum payout of $693,000 rather than annuity payments.

The truck driver told officials that he planned to purchase a new vehicle and then save the remainder of his prize.
