Dozens of law enforcement agencies will be participating in a major enforcement effort targeting aggressive drivers in Pennsylvania.

In a July 5 statement, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced a coordinated aggressive driving enforcement wave intended to reduce crashes starting now and continuing through August 21, 2022.

PennDOT said that more than 80 municipal police departments from Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties will partner with Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) for the enforcement effort.

Police will be on the lookout for “heavy truck violations, pedestrian safety, red light running, and tailgating” as well as driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, or other aggressive driving behaviors.

Officers will utilize traffic enforcement zones, saturation patrols, speed enforcement details, corridor enforcement, work zone enforcement, and multi-jurisdictional patrol strategies as part of the enforcement effort.

In 2021, 1,483 aggressive driving crashes resulted in 27 fatalities in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, according to PennDOT.
