Four people were hurt and a truck driver was cited after he lost control on a ramp in Louisiana on Monday afternoon.

The wreck happened on July 11th in Baton Rouge on a two lane ramp near the I-10/ I-110 merge.

According to WAFB News, the semi truck was traveling along the ramp when it lost control and the load shifted, sending the load of plywood flying off the trailer and into two nearby cars. The force of the impact crushed one car entirely and did substantial damage to another. The semi truck also overturned and sustained damage in the incident.

Four people from the two damaged cars were taken to the hospital following the incident. Their injuries were not considered life threatening.

“All of them sustained non-life-threatening injuries. So, they’re very lucky because the truck was hauling plywood from what I’m told and that’s very heavy. And had it hit just right it could have been much more severe,” said Mike Chutz with EMS.

Police say that this isn’t the first time they’ve seen an accident on that stretch of ramp.

“As you make that turn, that load can shift which it has before. We’ve had crashes like this that have occurred to where when they’re coming around the load that they’re carrying can actually shift on the trailer causing it to become unbalanced and from there that load, as happened today, fell over,” said Sgt. Mckneely with the Baton Rouge Police Department.

The truck driver, 34-year-old Sergio Suarez-Hernandez, was charged with disregard for controls and careless driving.
