Police are investigating after a semi truck driver was found dead following severe flooding caused by record-breaking rainfall in Hazelwood, Missouri, this week.

Shortly after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, officers with the Hazelwood Police Department responded to the 100 block of Byassee to perform a welfare check on a semi truck driver.

When they arrived on scene, they found the driver’s semi truck along with evidence that the truck had been totally submerged in floodwaters.

Officers began a search and found the body of a male about a mile away in the 90 block of Ford Lane.

The male was identified as the missing truck driver.

There were no signs of foul play, according to the Hazelwood Police Department. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The identity of the truck driver is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The incident remains under investigation.

Officials rescued dozens of people in the St. Louis area on Tuesday after heavy flooding in the area. One other person was reported dead as a result of the flooding.
