A Utah police officer is suggesting that motorists ‘don’t get in the way’ of commercial vehicles in response to a video of a serious wreck between a double trailer dump truck and a tractor trailer on icy roadways.

The video was filmed on Redwood Road in Lehi, Utah on Tuesday, January 16th.

According to KSL TV 5, the dump truck was slowing down and was turning into a job site when a semi truck came up behind it and “negotiated the speed incorrectly and did not give sufficient time to stop,” causing it to rear-end the dump truck at a high rate of speed.

The force of the impact tore the front end off of the semi truck and seriously damaged the rear trailer on the dump truck. The dump truck driver was not hurt, but the truck driver sustained injuries described as moderate.

Debris from the crash forced the closure of Redwood Road for nearly three hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage.

As for driving in these conditions, Sgt. Tyler Prawitt with the Lehi Police Department had this to say:

“Respect commercial vehicles. they’re really heavy, large vehicles. Respect the vehicles, and don’t get in the way and cause more problems.”
