Driver denied CDL crashed through DPS with “intent to harm”

Man denied commercial driver’s license crashed through DPS on Friday “with intent to harm” the people inside, police say. 

 

The incident occurred on April 12th at the Texas Department of Public Safety office in Brenham, Texas. 

The man was denied a CDL on Thursday, April 11th at the DPs location, so he “returned today with intent to harm,” according to the Texas Tribune.

The flatbed semi truck used in the incident was stolen, reported ABC News.

The crash caused substantial damage to the DPS location and caused “serious” injuries to multiple people. Three people were life-flighted with critical injuries, while three others were transported in stable condition. No DPS staff were injured in the incident. A total of 16 people were injured in the incident.

“According to law enforcement, this appears to be an intentional, criminal act…” wrote Texas Senator Lois Kolkhorst on Social Media. “This deliberate, heinous act is a reminder of the dangerous work done by our law enforcement and licensing agencies that work to provide public safety and services.”

 

The unidentified suspect has been taken into custody. The Texas DPS says that there is no further threat to the community from the suspect, and says that the Texas Rangers are investigating.
