The Willard City Police Department (WCPD) is asking for public help in locating suspects involved in a scam targeting truckers at a Utah Flying J truck stop.

Police say that a scam and robbery took place on April 16 at 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Flying J in Willard, Utah.

A truck driver told police that scammers approached him and claimed that they just won the lottery and were handing out money to truckers, KSLTV reports.

“It was reported to officers that these individuals will come up to you and state that they had just won the lottery. The individuals will then ask you how much money you have. At that point they will tell you they will double the money. The individuals will also state that they will give you 200 dollars. Once you pull out your money one person will count the money and the other person will assault you. The individuals will then take off with your money,” WCPD said.

“We would like to warn the public when they are at gas stations to please be cautious of scammer in the parking lot area, and to report anything suspicious to Box Elder Communications Center,” said police.

WCPD shared several images of vehicles and individuals who may be associated with the robbery incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call WCPD at 435-723-6890.
