The former manager of an Illinois trucking company has pleaded guilty to stealing supplies from the company in order to sell them for personal gain.

The scheme was carried out from July 2019 until the plot was discovered in May 2020.

According to The Belleville News Democrat, Timothy P. Mayer, former manager of Jung Truck Service, used the company’s business account to purchase truck tires and then sold them for personal profit. He also stole tires and brake supplies directly from the company’s inventory and sold those for personal profit as well.

The FBI has determined that Mayer defrauded the company out of more than $600,000 worth of tires.

The Madison St-Clair Record reports that Mayer was a “previously trusted employee” who purchased a  “tremendous volumes of tires” in order to “facilitate his drug addiction.”

Mayer pleaded guilty to a mail fraud charge in federal court on Tuesday, May 4th. He is scheduled for sentencing on August 11th at 1:30 p.m. Mayer is facing up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and three years of supervised release. Mayer will also be ordered to pay full restitution to Jung Truck Service – a total amount of $622,880.31.
