Driver Rescued After Box Truck Overturns on New Jersey Turnpike

Emergency crews responded to a box truck crash on the New Jersey Turnpike Wednesday morning, where a driver was trapped inside the overturned vehicle.
The accident happened around 7:30 a.m. at Exit 16E, near the toll plaza on the eastern spur of the Turnpike in Secaucus, New Jersey. The crash blocked at least four lanes leading to the I-495/Lincoln Tunnel approach, creating heavy traffic congestion.
Traffic backups extended as far as Secaucus Junction, with commuters heading into New York City from the New Jersey Turnpike being rerouted to the George Washington Bridge. The Holland Tunnel was also recommended as an alternate route.
At one point, drive times from Routes 1 & 9 to the Holland Tunnel surpassed 60 minutes due to heavy congestion. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
