A fatal collision involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV shut down an intersection in Montgomery County, Maryland, on Friday afternoon.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer, the crash occurred at the intersection of Norbeck and Layhill roads just before 1 p.m.

Authorities say the tractor-trailer was traveling east, while a woman driving a Kia Seltos was heading north when the two vehicles collided. The semi-truck dragged the SUV several hundred feet before coming to a stop.

The woman died at the scene, officials confirmed.

The intersection remained closed for an extended period, with authorities warning of significant delays and advising drivers to use alternate routes. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
