Hundreds of drivers have been stranded on I-10 in Texas since last night as an ice storm triggered tough travel conditions.

Since around 7 p.m. on Thursday, crashes on I-10 near Kerrville, Texas, brought traffic to a standstill as temperatures dipped near zero overnight.

Two of the major crashes on I-10 involved semi trucks. One occurred at mile marker 501 and the other at mile marker 513. No injuries have been reported. Law enforcement has struggled to find wreckers to clear the crashed trucks. Many drivers are also having a tough time getting up the hill due to ice. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are being deployed as of Friday morning to help clear the road and get traffic moving again. Around 11 a.m., the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) said, “The inside eastbound lane on I-10 near Kerrville is open after a previous crash involving a semi-truck. We are working with law enforcement & truckers to get more traffic moving. Please be patient as conditions are still hazardous with ice, even after multiple de-icing treatments.” Texas DPS said that the westbound lanes of I-10 are still closed and will remain so for several hours. Drivers who are running out of fuel are asked to call the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office at (830) 896-1216.
