Man Who Flipped Stolen Car Hauler on I-83 Had No CDL, Car on Trailer Also Reported Stolen

FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man who overturned a car hauler on Interstate 83 early on May 12 is now facing multiple charges after it was discovered that the rig was stolen, he did not possess a commercial driver’s license (CDL), and one of the vehicles on the trailer was also reported stolen.
The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. in Fairview Township, according to the York Dispatch. The car hauler veered off I-83 and overturned in a ditch, spilling several vehicles down the embankment. Witnesses at the scene told police they saw 39-year-old Ramon Vasquez-Fajardo exit the cab and walk away from the wreck.
Police located Vasquez-Fajardo shortly afterward and took him into custody. Upon questioning, authorities found he was carrying a non-U.S. ID from the Dominican Republic and a New Jersey driver's license, but no CDL.
Investigators contacted the owner of the semi-truck, who was unaware the vehicle was missing. The owner later arrived at the scene and confirmed that the truck and trailer were stolen. Further inspection revealed that one of the cars on the hauler was also listed as stolen property.
Vasquez-Fajardo now faces the following charges:
-
Three counts of receiving stolen property
-
Accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle (summary offense)
-
Reckless driving (summary offense)
-
Driving without a commercial driver’s license (summary offense)
His bail has been set at $50,000, and the case remains under investigation.
