Multiple Tractor-Trailers Involved in Crash on NC 50 Near Benson

BENSON, N.C. — Several tractor-trailers were involved in a crash Wednesday on N.C. Highway 50 near Surels Road in Johnston County, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
The incident began when a car stopped on NC 50 waiting to turn was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer, pushing it into oncoming traffic. The car was then struck again from the front by another truck.
The tractor-trailer that initially rear-ended the car overturned, ending up on its side.
Aerial footage from Sky 5 taken around 11:45 a.m. showed one truck on the shoulder, partially in a ditch, while a larger 18-wheeler lay completely overturned nearby.
NC 50 was blocked at the crash site, with tow trucks and emergency crews responding to the scene.
The driver of the car and the driver of the overturned semi were both transported to a hospital in Smithfield with minor injuries, authorities said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
