DANSVILLE, N.Y. — A New York State Police vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer on Interstate 390 in Dansville during a traffic stop on Monday, authorities reported.

Fortunately, the trooper was outside of the vehicle at the time of the crash, and no injuries were reported.

In a statement shared on social media, New York State Police emphasized that the incident serves as a critical reminder about New York’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers to slow down and move over for any emergency or highway vehicles stopped on the roadside.

“This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of traffic safety and the Move Over Law,” police stated.

Troopers urged drivers to stay alert, reduce speed, and move over when they see flashing lights — not just to comply with the law, but to help protect lives on the road.
