A powerful crash in East Baltimore late Monday night, June 2, 2025, left a building partially collapsed and residents shaken, after a pickup truck slammed into the corner of North Patterson Park Avenue and Federal Street.

Baltimore Police said the 64-year-old driver reported being forced off the road by another vehicle, leading him to crash into the structure. Though the sound of the impact led neighbors to assume it was a tractor-trailer, the crash was caused by a pickup truck.

Emergency crews from the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) inspected the damage and declared the building a public safety risk. It was ordered to be demolished.

No one was inside the property at the time of the crash. The ground floor was previously used as a salon, while the second floor was vacant. Officials confirmed there were no outstanding violations on the building.

Next door, Sofia Funez had been renovating her home with plans to move in. She now worries about the stability of the shared wall.

“We already invested a lot of money into that house. I feel so sad,” she told WMAR-2 News on Tuesday.

Another resident, Billy Green, who lives just a few doors down, expressed fears for her safety and future in the neighborhood. After dealing with prior flooding issues and now a nearby building collapse, she’s considering relocating.

“Why should I stay here? It’s scary to live in a corner house alone,” she said.

City Councilman Antonio Glover released a statement assuring the community that his office is working closely with DHCD and other city departments to monitor the surrounding area.

So far, the driver is not facing any charges, and no adjacent buildings are considered at risk, though inspections are ongoing.
