Teen Killed, Passenger Critically Injured in Pickup and Semi Crash in Lee County, Illinois

A 16-year-old girl was killed and another person critically injured after a pickup truck and a semi-trailer collided Monday afternoon in Lee County, Illinois.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at the intersection of Chicago Road and Route 251. Witnesses reported that a pickup truck pulled out in front of a semi-trailer, resulting in a broadside collision.
The driver of the pickup, Chasity Stavenhagen of Earlville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, 20-year-old Kevin Kain of West Brooklyn, was transported to a nearby hospital and later airlifted to Rockford, where he remains in critical condition.
The driver of the semi, a 62-year-old man from Sublette, was not injured and was released at the scene.
The road was closed for several hours while authorities investigated. The crash remains under investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
