Corvette slides under tractor-trailer in North Carolina, driver and teen injured

WEST END, North Carolina — A 62-year-old Corvette driver and his 15-year-old passenger were injured after their sports car slid under a tractor-trailer on N.C. 211 in Moore County.
The crash occurred when the driver reportedly “gave it too much gas and lost control” while heading north near N.C. 73, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper G. J. Smith. The Corvette crossed the center line just as a southbound tractor-trailer was passing, sliding under the trailer and getting run over by its rear wheels. The trailer was carrying 15,000 pounds of cargo, causing severe damage to the Corvette.
According to CBS 17, both occupants were not wearing seatbelts but survived the crash. The teen passenger suffered a broken ankle, while the driver sustained multiple broken bones and other serious injuries. Both were transported to Moore County Regional Hospital, with the driver later transferred to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Troopers cited the Corvette driver, a Raeford resident who works at a nearby car repair shop, for careless and reckless driving. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured. N.C. 211 was closed for over an hour following the crash.
