A fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 87 southbound in Clarkstown, Rockland County claimed the life of a 33-year-old driver early Saturday morning, June 21, 2025, according to New York State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:01 a.m., just before Exit 12, when a 2024 Subaru WRX traveling north in the southbound lanes struck a 2017 Volvo truck towing a trailer. The Subaru was then hit by a 2016 Freightliner truck, also towing a trailer, which collided again with the Volvo before stopping.

According to New York State Police, the driver of the Subaru, Brian P. Tortora, 33, of New York, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The Volvo’s driver, Roberto A. Rondon-Fleites, 52, was taken to Nyack Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Freightliner’s driver, Wilber M. Ramos, 27, was not injured. All three vehicles were occupied solely by their drivers.

The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to process the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.
