A tractor-trailer loaded with cheese overturned Saturday morning on State Route 309, also known as Mile Hill, shutting down traffic for most of the day in Schuylkill County.

The crash happened around 9 a.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police Frackville, when a 31-year-old driver from Nevada was traveling south, descending the mountain, and negotiating a right-hand curve. For reasons still under investigation, the truck crossed the raised center divider into the northbound lanes, broke through the guardrail, and rolled onto its side down a steep embankment.

A 40-year-old passenger from California was also inside the truck. Both men suffered minor injuries and were able to get out of the cab on their own.

As of 7:00 p.m., Route 309 North remained closed for recovery operations, with crews estimating the road would reopen by about 9 p.m., according to Skook News.
