Semi-Truck Driver Killed in I-70 Crash Near Downtown Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A semi-truck driver was killed in a crash on Interstate 70 near the North Split in downtown Indianapolis Friday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
The collision happened around 4:45 p.m. on July 4 in the westbound lanes of I-70 approaching I-65. According to an Indiana State Police spokesperson, the crash involved a semi tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle. Investigators believe a car made an abrupt lane change in front of the semi, forcing the truck driver to brake suddenly.
The sudden stop caused the truck’s load of plywood to shift and fall from the flatbed trailer. The driver of the semi, identified by the Marion County Coroner’s Office as 50-year-old Acy Shannon III, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to WTHR, nobody in the passenger vehicle suffered serious injuries.
The crash investigation shut down westbound lanes of I-70 for hours while troopers worked to clear the wreckage and piece together what happened.
