QUEENS VILLAGE, N.Y. — Several people, including an MTA bus driver and passengers, were injured Tuesday morning when a Q88 bus collided with a crane on Springfield Boulevard in Queens Village.

The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. when the bus was making a left turn and was struck on its left side by an overland crane moving through the intersection. Passengers described the impact as sudden and violent, shattering windows and throwing riders from their seats.

“We didn’t see the crane coming. I don’t know if that person was trying to clip the light before it turned red, but our bus was turning perfectly fine and then the crane just hits us,” 18-year-old Emily McKinnon, one of the passengers, told Eyewitness News in an exclusive interview.

McKinnon, who was heading to her hospital job, described seeing fellow riders thrown to the floor as glass shattered around them. She said the bus driver appeared to be the most seriously shaken but remained conscious and alert after the crash.

After checking on other passengers, McKinnon left the scene but says the experience has left her nervous about riding the bus again.

The MTA confirmed that three passengers and the driver were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The NYPD is investigating the cause of the collision.
