A Fort Lauderdale resident is facing decades behind bars for allegedly using “force and fear” to rob truck drivers as they attempted to deliver products.

On August 16, a federal magistrate judge denied bond for 39 year old Denorio Humes, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Humes is accused of acting as part of a crew that targeted truck drivers who were delivering cigarettes and other tobacco products to gas stations and other stores in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Collier counties from April 2020 to March 2021.

Authorities say that the crew physically assaulted some of the truck drivers and threatened others.

Humes has been charged with one count of conspiring to commit a Hobbs Act robbery and one count of committing a Hobbs Act robbery.

The Hobbs Act prohibits actual or attempted robbery or extortion affecting interstate or foreign commerce.

If convicted, Humes faces up to 40 years in prison.

Multiple agencies assisted with the investigation, including FBI Miami, Miami-Dade County Police Department, Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Doral Police Department, and the Broward County State Attorney’s Office.
