Tanker Semi-Truck Rolls Over on I-90 Eastbound, Trapping Driver and Spilling Fuel and Milk in Monroe County, Wisconsin

SPARTA, Wis. — Emergency crews in Monroe County responded early Thursday morning after a tanker semi-truck rolled over on Interstate 90 eastbound near mile marker 23, trapping the driver and causing a hazardous materials spill.
According to Sparta Area Fire Chief Mike Arnold, the crash occurred around 12:29 a.m. when the tanker truck veered into the median and overturned. Firefighters from the Sparta Area Fire District worked to extricate the trapped driver, who sustained minor injuries and was transported for evaluation.
The tanker was reported to be leaking both diesel fuel and milk, prompting a coordinated response from multiple agencies. The Wisconsin State Patrol, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Sparta Area Ambulance Service, Monroe County Highway Department, and PER Towing all assisted on scene.
Authorities temporarily closed portions of the highway to contain and clean up the fuel spill and assess environmental impacts.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
According to WKBT News 8, the fire department confirmed that the driver is expected to recover, and no additional injuries were reported among responders or bystanders.
