GREEN RIVER, Utah — A semi-truck driver used a fuel hose and window squeegee to defend himself after another trucker confronted him with a pocket knife over an earlier highway dispute, according to the Emery County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to the Maverik gas station in Green River on October 13 after reports of a knife assault between two truck drivers. Investigators said Habib Khairy, 37, allegedly approached another trucker who was fueling his rig and began yelling and shoving him near the throat. The confrontation escalated when Khairy pulled a small pocket knife from his pocket.

The victim told deputies he tried to fend Khairy off by swinging a fuel hose, then grabbed a window squeegee to protect himself as Khairy continued to approach him. Surveillance footage from the station confirmed the victim’s account of the incident.

According to ABC4 News, Khairy later told deputies he was still angry because the other trucker had cut him off on the highway earlier, and that the altercation continued when he saw the same truck parked at the gas station. Although Khairy initially denied having a knife, deputies later found one in his cab that matched the description and video evidence.

Khairy, who holds a Texas commercial driver’s license, was arrested and booked into the Emery County Jail on aggravated assault charges. He is being held without bail, according to ABC4 News.
