Firefighters rescue driver trapped in overturned tractor-trailer carrying lime in Appomattox County

APPOMATTOX COUNTY, Virginia — A tractor-trailer carrying lime overturned Monday morning on Lime Plant Road, trapping the driver and spilling fuel onto the roadway.
The crash happened around 8:30 a.m. when the truck overturned on its side, leaving one person stuck inside the cab. The Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department, Appomattox County Rescue Squad, and Gladstone Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene to assist.
According to WSET, rescue crews successfully extricated the driver, who was then evaluated by EMS personnel. Firefighters also worked to contain leaking diesel fuel caused by the crash.
The Virginia Department of Transportation established a detour while crews cleared the scene. The Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police also responded to assist with the investigation.
