A semi truck plowed through the side of a bank in California on Thursday morning, narrowly missing an ATM repairman and sending the driver to the hospital.

The accident happened on August 19th in Burney, California.

Kyle Hester was working on an ATM inside of the US Bank when the rig hit the corner of the  building, tore down the wall, and came to a stop mere inches from where he was standing.

“I was standing at the back of the ATM, but working on it, and I heard rumbling. And then, everything just, kind of, exploded,” said Hester to ABC 7 News. “It moved me back a couple of feet but everything else collapsed around and I was in a little two-foot circle but nothing happened.

Hester was not hurt, but the truck driver was airlifted to a nearby hospital with a serious cut to the head. Their current condition is not known.

California Highway Patrol says that the truck was moving at approximately 20-25 mph when it struck the building, and that higher speeds could have made the situation much worse.

“I’ll probably process the rest of it later tonight and I’ll get back to work,” Hester said.

The incident is still under investigation, but officers say they do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
