KENDALL COUNTY, Texas — A devastating crash on Interstate 10 claimed the lives of one adult and two children Monday afternoon after a semi-truck struck a stopped pickup truck near mile marker 524, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Troopers said the collision occurred around 3:19 p.m. when a 2013 GMC Sierra was stopped in the right lane of the highway for unknown reasons. A 2018 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck traveling westbound slammed into the back of the pickup, killing three of the five occupants instantly.

The victims were identified as 23-year-old Giselle Cristobal and two young boys, both pronounced dead at the scene. The 31-year-old female driver of the GMC and a 2-year-old girl were critically injured — the child was airlifted to a San Antonio hospital, while the adult was transported by ground ambulance.

According to News 4 San Antonio, the driver of the semi-truck was unharmed. The highway was closed for several hours as DPS investigators worked to reconstruct the scene.
