ALTA, Calif. — A truck driver survived with minor injuries after a violent multi-truck crash ripped apart his cab and shut down part of Interstate 80 near Alta on Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 11:45 a.m. on westbound I-80 when a dump truck spilled oil and fuel onto the highway. Moments later, a gravel truck veered off the road and crashed into trees, with the cab wrapping around a trunk. A third vehicle, an Amazon semi-truck, then lost control on the slick roadway and crashed near Alta Bonnynook Road.

Photos from the scene show the truck cab shredded. Despite the impact, authorities said the driver was hurt but alive, suffering only minor injuries.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-80 were temporarily closed to allow emergency crews access to the scene. The highway fully reopened shortly before 3 p.m., according to CBS News Sacramento.
