GILLETTE, Wyo. — An Illinois truck driver who intentionally side-swiped a pickup truck nearly a year ago has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to aggravated assault.

According to Gillette News Record, 33-year-old Alexander Tuttle pleaded guilty earlier this year and was sentenced on October 16 by District Judge Mike Causey to three to five years in prison, suspended for three years of supervised probation. A $5,000 fine was also suspended.

The incident happened on November 28, 2024, when troopers responded to a hit-and-run on Highway 50 involving a white pickup and a tractor-trailer. The pickup had been pushed onto the sidewalk and showed significant driver’s side damage consistent with being side-swiped.

Investigators said Tuttle used his 80,000-pound tractor-trailer to swerve into the pickup after an apparent confrontation on the highway. Witnesses reported that Tuttle sped up, cut off another vehicle, and then abruptly swerved into the pickup before driving away.

Tuttle initially told authorities that the pickup swerved into him, but officers determined his statements were inconsistent with the evidence and other witness accounts. He was arrested for aggravated assault using a commercial vehicle as a weapon.
