FRESNO, Calif. — More than 300 residents lost power early Thursday morning after two semi-trucks collided at an intersection in southeast Fresno, bringing down multiple power poles and igniting a small brush fire.

According to FOX26, the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Maple and American avenues. The California Highway Patrol said one of the semis, hauling a tank trailer, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with another semi hauling a box trailer. Both trucks were empty at the time of the crash.

The impact caused several power poles to snap and live wires to fall across the roadway, sparking a fire along the shoulder. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames before they could spread. A fuel spill was also reported but could not be cleaned up until both trucks were towed away.

Both trucks sustained major damage. The drivers suffered minor injuries, and one was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for evaluation, while the other was treated at the scene.

PG&E reported that 326 customers were initially without power following the crash. Repair crews arrived before 7 a.m. to replace damaged poles and restore power, with full restoration expected by 1 p.m.

The crash forced the closure of Maple and American avenues for several hours as cleanup crews and investigators worked at the scene. The intersection reopened later in the day once debris, fuel, and damaged electrical equipment were cleared.

CHP said the crash remains under investigation but noted that one of the truck drivers’ failure to stop at the intersection likely caused the collision.
