Semi hauling steel pipes overturns on I-465 exit ramp, shutting down access to I-70 westbound
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A semitruck carrying steel pipes overturned late Saturday morning on an Interstate 465 exit ramp, forcing lengthy closures and an extensive cleanup operation, according to transportation officials.
As reported by WISH-TV, the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on the I-465 southbound ramp connecting to I-70 westbound near High School Road. The overturned truck scattered heavy steel pipes across the roadway.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) said both the northbound and southbound ramps from I-465 to I-70 westbound were closed and are expected to remain shut down for an extended period while crews work to remove the cargo and upright the semi.
INDOT said one lane of the southbound exit ramp will eventually reopen, but no estimated time was provided.
