Several cars hauled by semi-truck catch fire on I-20 in Rankin County
PELAHATCHIE, Miss. — Several cars being transported on the back of a semi-truck caught fire early Monday on Interstate 20 near Pelahatchie, causing traffic delays and leaving multiple vehicles charred.
The fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. on I-20 westbound near mile marker 73, close to the Rankin–Scott County line, according to WAPT. The truck, which was hauling six vehicles, came to a stop after the driver noticed one of the truck’s tires had caught fire.

Fire crews from Pelahatchie responded quickly and worked to extinguish the blaze. Several of the vehicles on the trailer sustained heavy fire damage, while others were scorched by heat and smoke. The truck was removed from the scene by about 7 a.m., according to WLBT.
No injuries were reported. Deputies from the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist with traffic control and the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the tire to ignite, and the incident remains under investigation.
