2 Killed in Fiery Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-70 in Maryland

Frederick County, Maryland — A fiery multi-vehicle crash on I-70 claimed two lives and left several others injured after a violent chain of collisions near Exit 62 in New Market.
The crash occurred on Sunday afternoon, May 25, 2025, at around 4:10 p.m. Maryland State Police say a BMW SUV traveling westbound rear-ended a box truck just before Route 75. The impact pushed the box truck across the median and into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer in the eastbound lanes.
Both the box truck and the tractor trailer veered off the highway and burst into flames in a wooded area alongside I-70.
Two passengers in the box truck died at the scene. The drivers of the box truck and the tractor trailer were airlifted to nearby hospitals. The BMW driver declined medical assistance, but two passengers in the SUV were taken to a hospital by ambulance.
Due to the seriousness of the crash, the Maryland State Police Crash Team launched an investigation. Officials confirmed that all possible causes are being examined, and the crash was captured by state traffic cameras.
The investigation is ongoing.
