Jackknifed semi and Tesla crash block two lanes on I-5 near Grapevine

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A crash involving a jackknifed semi-truck and a Tesla caused major delays Thursday afternoon on southbound Interstate 5 near Grapevine Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported around 2:14 p.m., according to KBAK/KBFX. CHP said the semi-truck jackknifed into the guardrail, damaging roughly 40 feet of rail and blocking the No. 1 and No. 2 lanes.

It was not immediately known whether anyone was injured. Caltrans reported no estimated time for when the blocked lanes would reopen.

Traffic in the area was expected to remain slow as crews worked to clear the wreckage and evaluate the damaged guardrail.
