Tractor-trailer carrying lime overturns and catches fire on I-95 in Chesterfield County
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A tanker tractor-trailer crash sparked a major vehicle fire and shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 95 on Tuesday morning, according to Virginia State Police.

The crash happened around 6:46 a.m. near the Route 288 exit. Investigators said the tanker, which was hauling lime, was traveling southbound when it crashed over the jersey wall, overturned on the right side of the highway, and caught fire.

The driver, a 38-year-old Maryland man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is facing a reckless driving charge, according to police.

The Virginia Department of Transportation said all southbound lanes of I-95 remain closed, and the Coxendale Road bridge is also shut down. Traffic is being detoured at Exit 62, while Route 288 traffic is being diverted at Route 1. Drivers are urged to follow posted detours or find alternate routes.

Chesterfield County Fire and EMS said the flames have been extinguished, but the highway will stay closed for an extended period due to cleanup and recovery operations.
