HOUSTON, TEXAS — A man was killed late Friday night after an Amazon tractor-trailer reportedly ran a red light and crashed into his sedan at the SH-288 feeder road near South Sam Houston Parkway West, according to investigators at the scene.

The collision occurred just before 11 p.m. when the Amazon 18-wheeler entered the intersection against a red signal and struck a sedan traveling through. Investigators said dash-camera footage from the truck showed the light was red at the moment of impact, despite the Amazon driver initially claiming he had a yellow light. Authorities noted that the truck driver may have been “blinded” by a nearby set of traffic lights that were green at the time, though the crash remains under investigation.

According to ABC13, the driver of the sedan — described as a Black male in his late twenties or early thirties — was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Deputies confirmed that the Amazon truck driver did not exhibit signs of intoxication, and no charges have been filed at this stage of the investigation. None of the individuals involved have been publicly identified.

An Amazon spokesperson told FOX 26 that the truck driver involved in the crash is employed by an independent third-party contractor. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of all those involved in this tragedy. We’ll cooperate with law enforcement as they investigate further,” said Steve Kelly, Senior Communications Manager for Amazon.com.

Authorities continue to review evidence as they work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
