CINCINNATI, OHIO — Two people were hospitalized after a crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 71 in Cincinnati, according to local police and fire officials.

The first report came from Cincinnati police, who confirmed that a collision between a car and a semi-truck occurred around 12:39 p.m. Saturday near the 1.9-mile mark of I-71. Both individuals injured in that incident were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A separate early-morning crash on Sunday around 12:30 a.m. resulted in a semi-truck overturning on southbound I-71 near Dana Avenue, according to District Fire Chief Philip A. Worsham, as reported by Local12.

Fire crews arrived to find the semi on its side following a collision with a Tesla sedan. Other motorists were already assisting the two occupants inside the overturned truck. Both semi-truck occupants were transported to UC Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The Tesla driver declined medical care and was placed into police custody. Authorities did not immediately specify why the driver was detained.

Southbound I-71 at Dana Avenue was closed for a period while crews worked to stabilize the scene, deploy heavy rescue equipment, and remove the overturned semi. The interstate has since reopened.

Both incidents remain under investigation as officials work to determine the causes of the crashes.
