SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A semi-truck hauling a load of liquor rolled onto its side early Monday morning, blocking multiple northbound lanes of Interstate 15 and causing significant traffic delays, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported just after 6:20 a.m. near the top of the on-ramp from 1300 South, Utah Department of Transportation officials said.

What investigators say happened

Troopers confirmed that four vehicles were involved in the collision, including the semi-truck. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and officials have not released details on what led to the rollover.

Traffic camera footage showed the semi lying on its side across several right-side lanes of I-15. First responders shut down an additional two lanes while working the scene, leaving only one lane open for northbound travelers.

Injuries

One person suffered moderate injuries and was transported for medical care, according to Sgt. Mike Alexander of the Utah Highway Patrol. No other injuries were immediately reported.

Traffic impact

The crash caused major congestion across the interstate:

  • UDOT warned drivers to expect severe delays and suggested alternate routes, including I-215 or State Street.

  • By 7:45 a.m., northbound traffic was backed up nearly seven miles, reaching the I-215 interchange near 6400 South.

  • All lanes reopened by 9:00 a.m., though drivers were told to expect continuing delays as congestion cleared.

According to KUTV, the crash remains under investigation.
