CHIPPEWA COUNTY, MICHIGAN — A 24-year-old man from Brampton, Ontario, was arrested in Michigan after Michigan State Police said he was pulled over near the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge while driving a stolen semi-truck that had an altered vehicle identification number.

Michigan State Police said Yuvraj Singh has been arraigned on multiple charges, including possession of a stolen commercial vehicle.

On December 12, at approximately 7:35 p.m., MSP said a Motor Carrier Officer from the Sault Ste. Marie Post stopped the semi-truck for commercial vehicle violations.

MSP said the truck had been previously reported stolen in Ontario. Investigators said the semi-truck had an altered VIN number in an apparent attempt to conceal its identity.

MSP said the semi-truck and trailer were seized and towed from the scene.

Singh was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail and arraigned on December 15 in the 91st District Court. He faces charges of receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, motor vehicle fraud, and having an invalid license plate.

MSP said Singh was released on a personal recognizance bond with conditions, including surrendering his passport, remaining within the county or state, and being monitored by a GPS tether.

The Michigan State Police said they were assisted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, and Southwest Commercial Auto Recovery. Singh is considered innocent unless proven guilty.

The case remains under investigation.
