TWIN FALLS, IDAHO — A powerful windstorm in Southern Idaho toppled semi trucks and tractor-trailers, disrupted highway travel, and damaged roadside infrastructure as high-profile vehicles struggled to stay upright in hurricane-like gusts.

The National Weather Service reported sustained winds around 30 miles per hour with gusts approaching 70 miles per hour during the storm. Those conditions created especially dangerous crosswinds for commercial vehicles, and multiple semi trucks were reported blown over or pushed off balance along key freight corridors.

Several tractor-trailers, particularly those with empty or lightly loaded trailers, were reported to have toppled during the wind event. At least one semi and trailer sustained significant damage linked directly to the high winds, with photos and local reports showing overturned rigs and blocked travel lanes.

The windstorm also impacted surrounding infrastructure. In Twin Falls, a light pole on the Perrine Bridge was twisted by strong gusts and fell into oncoming traffic, adding to the hazards facing truck drivers and other motorists. Elsewhere, a power pole was left leaning toward a highway, and another was reported snapped in half, heightening risks along routes heavily used by commercial traffic.

Beyond the highway impacts, the storm triggered scattered power outages throughout Southern Idaho as multiple power lines and poles were damaged or downed. Crews responded to stabilize the affected areas, clear debris from roadways, and support tow and recovery operations for disabled or overturned semis.

Officials said the final number of semi-related incidents and crashes tied to the windstorm has not yet been fully tallied. Assessments continued as responders worked to upright trucks, repair damaged infrastructure, and restore normal travel and utility service.

The situation remains under review as damage reports and incident totals are still being compiled.
