Suspect Crashes Head-On Into 18-Wheeler in Apparent Suicide Attempt After Killing Man in Dyer County Shooting
DYER COUNTY, TENNESSEE — A suspect shot two men Thursday morning in Dyer County, killing one of them, before driving into an 18-wheeler on a Tennessee highway in an apparent suicide attempt, the sheriff’s office said.
According to the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Lennox area for a shooting. The department said deputies arrived and found two men had been shot. The sheriff’s office said one man died at the scene, while the other man was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
The sheriff’s office said that after the shooting, the suspect drove off and collided head-on with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 155 in what authorities described as “an apparent attempt to commit suicide.” The suspect, whose identity was not immediately released, suffered life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said both crime scenes have been secured and added that there was no threat to the community.
The investigation remains ongoing.
