Tractor-Trailer Jackknifes Inside Tip O’Neill Tunnel, Forcing I-93 Southbound Closure in Boston
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS — A jackknifed tractor-trailer in the Tip O’Neill Tunnel shut down part of Interstate 93 on Friday morning, causing major delays for commuters heading into Boston, according to MassDOT.
The crash happened on the southbound side of Interstate 93 near Exit 16 inside the Tip O’Neill Tunnel, MassDOT said.
MassDOT reported that all lanes were closed, and drivers were being diverted via 16A. A traffic camera on the Zakim Bridge showed traffic at a standstill.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured in the crash.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use an alternate route as crews responded and worked to clear the scene.
The investigation and roadway response remain ongoing.
