Fuel Leak From Overturned Semi Forces I-84 East Lane Closures in Hartford as Second Crash Hits Westbound Side
HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT — An overturned tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 84 East in Hartford shut down multiple lanes Monday morning and prompted an environmental response for a fuel leak, while a separate crash on Interstate 84 West later caused additional lane closures, officials said.
The tractor-trailer overturned on I-84 East between Exits 50 and 51 shortly after 5:00 a.m., according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. Connecticut State Police said no injuries were reported.
State police said crews from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to handle a fuel leak at the scene. The DOT said the crash closed the left and center lanes of Interstate 84 East. State police said a heavy wrecker was expected to respond to remove the overturned tractor-trailer.
A second crash was reported later on I-84 West between Exits 47 and 46 around 6:45 a.m., the DOT said. The collision involved two motorists, and state police said no injuries were reported. Officials said the second crash left two lanes of Interstate 84 West closed while a wrecker responded to the scene.
Cleanup and removal operations continued as crews worked to clear both incidents and restore normal traffic flow.
