A preliminary investigation indicated the commercial motor vehicle was parked on the eastbound shoulder of U.S. 54 near mile marker 20 when it was struck from behind by an eastbound 2017 Chevrolet Silverado.
Troopers identified the Silverado driver as Aaron Bradley Patton, 26, and said he died as a result of the crash.
KHP said the commercial vehicle left the scene following the collision. Investigators described the truck as light-colored, possibly silver or gray, and said it was transporting an oversized load that included a large steel cylinder.
KHP said it is seeking witnesses and information to identify the commercial vehicle and driver involved. Anyone with information regarding witnesses or the truck is asked to contact Technical Trooper Clayton Tarpley, Troop E, at 620-276-3201. KHP said it appreciates the public’s assistance and noted that in other cases, witnesses and vehicles have been successfully located with help from citizens.
The investigation remains ongoing as troopers work to identify the truck and driver involved.
