Virginia State Police Arrest Fleeing Driver After Alcohol Suspected in Logging Truck Rollover That Spilled Logs in Amherst County
AMHERST COUNTY, VIRGINIA — Virginia State Police said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in a logging truck crash in Amherst County Tuesday that shut down Route 130 for an extended period and ended with the driver being arrested after troopers said he fled the scene on foot.

Police said Eric Landon May, 30, was taken into custody following the crash.
According to investigators, May was driving a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer hauling logs when it overturned at the intersection of Elon Road and the Blue Ridge Parkway, spilling its load of logs onto the roadway.

After the rollover, police said May ran from the crash scene and hid in a nearby wooded area. He was later found and arrested.

Virginia State Police confirmed they believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
