HazMat Team Responds to Four Tractor-Trailer Crashes and Rollovers Within Five Miles During Snow Squall on I-84 in Willington
WILLINGTON, CONNECTICUT — A snow squall Monday night caused a series of crashes along Interstate 84 in the Tolland and Willington area, including multiple tractor-trailer rollovers within a short stretch of highway that required hazardous materials crews to evacuate fuel tanks and clean up diesel spills, officials said.
State Police said troopers responded to several incidents along I-84 during the Monday night commute, including tractor-trailer accidents and rollovers. Environmental Services, Inc. said its HazMat team responded to four tractor-trailer accidents and rollovers within a five-mile stretch as the snow squall moved through and blanketed I-84 East and West in the area.

Environmental Services said that following the crashes, all fuel tanks were evacuated and fuel spills were cleaned up.
State Police also reported a separate crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer on I-84 West near Exit 71, where officials said there were no injuries but a diesel fuel spill occurred. The fire department and Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded to that scene.
Cleanup and response operations continued as authorities managed hazardous conditions tied to the snow squall and fuel spills.
