Reno Man Dies After Wrong-Way Toyota Slams Head-On Into Semi on I-80 in Sparks
SPARKS, NEVADA — A wrong-way driver was killed in a head-on crash involving a semi tractor-trailer on Interstate 80 near Pyramid Highway in Sparks early Dec. 21, with Nevada Highway Patrol investigators saying the collision happened when a Toyota traveling the wrong direction entered the semi’s lane.
The crash was reported just before 5:00 a.m. on westbound I-80 near Pyramid Highway. Nevada Highway Patrol said a Toyota RAV4 was traveling eastbound in the far left lane of westbound I-80, driving the wrong way. At the same time, a semi tractor-trailer was traveling westbound in that same left lane, and the two vehicles collided head-on.
NHP identified the Toyota driver as Christian Lebow, 27, of Reno, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi sustained reportedly minor injuries, according to authorities.
The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating. No further details were released.
