MOAB, UTAH — A semi-truck hauling onions crashed and rolled over on Highway 191 south of Moab Wednesday morning, tearing apart the trailer and spilling bags of onions off the roadway as fire crews remained on scene for protection while the area was secured.

The Moab Valley Fire Department said the crash happened around 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, about 15 miles south of Moab on Highway 191. When first responders arrived, they found the driver outside the truck. The driver was assessed by Grand County Emergency Medical Services at the scene, and no injuries were reported.

A photo shared from the scene showed the semi-truck lying on its side with the trailer destroyed, and bags of onions spilled into a ditch just off the side of the highway.

Officials said it was unclear what caused the crash and noted that no other vehicles were involved. The Moab Valley Fire Department said fire units remained on scene for fire protection as crews handled the aftermath.

The investigation remains ongoing.
