MISSION VALLEY, CALIFORNIA — A semi tractor-trailer hydroplaned during heavy rain Thursday morning, crashed into the center divider, and jackknifed on northbound Interstate 15 in Mission Valley, blocking the right three lanes just south of Interstate 8 and prompting the California Highway Patrol to issue a Sig Alert.

The solo-vehicle crash was reported to CHP at approximately 10:50 a.m. Investigators said the big rig hydroplaned in the heavy rain before striking the center divider and jackknifing across lanes. CHP reported that the tractor-trailer’s front end was smashed in the collision.

Officials said the crash blocked the right three northbound lanes of Interstate 15. A tow truck was called to remove the tractor-trailer, and drivers were encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays near the scene.

CHP said it was not immediately known whether the tractor-trailer driver was injured.
