A man is dead after jumping off of a bridge and into the path of an oncoming 18 wheeler in Texas on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred on September 7th in San Antonio, Texas.

According to KSAT News, police responded to the Interstate 35 overpass at Brooklyn Avenue after receiving reports of a man waving a large stick and holding a bottle in his hand near the edge of the overpass.

When police approached the man, he reportedly threw the bottle at them, so police blocked off the street and called for crisis negotiators and a mental health team, fearing that the man was in crisis.

Moments after officers placed the call for specialized mental health help, the man jumped off the overpass and into the path of an oncoming semi truck on Interstate 35, where he was struck and killed.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the lower level of I-35 was shut down for several hours as officers investigated the incident.

Officers say they are still not sure why the man jumped, and that the truck driver was not hurt during the ordeal.
